Upon landing, you will be greeted warmly by our local guides, who will assist with your transfers and ensure a seamless start to your unforgettable Bhutanese adventure.
Today, drive northwest along the Pa Chu River to the impressive ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, built to defend the valley from Tibetan invasions. On a clear day, enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Chomolhari rising beyond the Dzong. On your return, visit a typical Bhutanese farmhouse to experience local culture. In the afternoon, take a gentle walk up the hill above your hotel to reach the Taktsang Monastery viewpoint, offering a preview of the famous “Tiger’s Nest.”
Drive along the Pa Chu River downstream to its confluence with the Wangchu River, then continue up the valley to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu. After lunch, visit the Memorial Chorten, where locals circumambulate the shrine, turning prayer wheels in honor of the late king. Explore additional monasteries and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the capital.
Enjoy a full day of Thimphu exploration. Stroll through the town and visit the Handicrafts Emporium, where you can observe traditional artisans at work. In the afternoon, visit Tashi Chhodzong, a majestic fortress that houses both government offices and the monastic body. Take in the blend of spiritual and administrative life that defines Thimphu.
After a 45-minute drive, reach the starting point of your trek. Today’s walk follows a mule path through lush forests and terraced fields, ending after approximately four hours at Genekha School. The landscape is rich in coniferous vegetation, offering a refreshing introduction to Bhutanese trekking.
Overnight camping at Genekha.
Leaving Genekha, the trail takes you through alpine forests, where birds and wildflowers abound. After two hours of gradual uphill walking, rest at a large rock platform with panoramic valley views. Continue another two hours to reach Gur, a tranquil campsite surrounded by vibrant flora, perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll.
Trek across high ridges adorned with flowers and wild asparagus (in spring). Cross the first mountain pass, marked by a large cairn, offering spectacular views of the Dagala range and yak herders’ camps. After lunch at a yak herders’ settlement, continue across meadows and hills to reach Labatama
Spend the day on an excursion to nearby lakes. A short 15-minute walk to Setsoi Lake is followed by a gentle hike over a ridge to Jagetso Lake. For the adventurous, climb Jomp Peak (5,050 m) to enjoy a panoramic summit view. Return to camp by dusk for a restful evening.
Trek through alpine meadows, shrubs, and pristine lakes, with opportunities to spot Himalayan monal pheasants, yaks, and horses. Cross several high passes, each offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Look out for blue poppies and a variety of alpine birds.
