Upon landing, you will be greeted warmly by our local guides, who will assist with your transfers and ensure a seamless start to your unforgettable Bhutanese adventure.
Spend a full day photographing Thimphu’s cultural and architectural treasures. Highlights include Tashichho Dzong, local monasteries, and traditional shops. Capture Bhutanese people practicing daily rituals and dressed in kira and gho, providing rich portrait opportunities. Explore scenic viewpoints overlooking the city and surrounding mountains during golden hour, offering dramatic lighting for landscape photography.
Travel to Punakha Valley via Dochula Pass (3,100 m / 10,170 ft). Stop to photograph 360° panoramic Himalayan vistas and the 108 memorial chortens lining the pass. Arrive in Punakha and focus on Punakha Dzong, situated at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers, reflecting beautifully in the morning light. Explore nearby suspension bridges, rivers, and rice terraces, perfect for landscape and architectural photography.
Overnight: Punakha
Drive to the serene Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley known for vast wetlands, traditional farmhouses, and endemic wildlife. Photograph the valley’s expansive landscapes and rivers, and, if visiting in season, capture the migratory black-necked cranes. Explore Gangtey Monastery, perched above the valley, providing stunning architectural and landscape photography opportunities. The soft Himalayan light during sunrise and sunset enhances every shot in this peaceful valley.
Spend another day exploring the Punakha Valley and surrounding villages. Photograph traditional Bhutanese villages, farmers in vibrant attire, chortens, and rivers flowing through the valley. Capture reflections in calm waters, rustic farmhouses against lush hills, and golden hour landscapes. Afternoon is free to revisit Punakha Dzong for different lighting or to explore riverside trails for intimate nature photography.
Drive back to Paro for the highlight of the tour: a hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched dramatically on a cliff 900 meters above the valley. Capture breathtaking photos of the monastery with clouds drifting below and snow-capped Himalayan peaks in the background. Along the trail, photograph fortresses, chortens, prayer flags, and traditional farmhouses, with multiple vantage points for panoramic shots. Evening photography includes the golden glow over Paro town and rivers.
